Sustainability Policy
Approved 5th December 2023
Trajectory Theatre is committed to be ‘net-zero’ across all operations by 2050, in line with the Government's UK targets. This means that our current focus is on reducing our emissions as close to zero as possible by swapping to low-carbon solutions. Trajectory Theatre acknowledges that climate change and the current environmental crisis are the most significant challenges facing us all. As a relatively new charity, we understand the responsibility of leading by example and our policy for the next few years will build on our achievements and force us to take greater responsibility for our environmental impact across all areas of our work.
Environmental Impacts
The environmental impact from our work includes:
-
Occasional travel associated with our operations
-
Participation/education and visiting members
-
Waste management
-
Energy procurement and usage
-
Water usage
-
Goods and service procurement and supply chain, e.g logistics, e-waste, electronics production toll
Commitment to monitoring and understanding the data we gather
Everyone at Trajectory Theatre is committed to understanding the charity’s environmental impacts and the data gathered plays an important role in informing our decisions and plans.
We collect and use data to inform our environmental strategies, these are outlined in the Action plan:
-
Commitment to zero waste to landfill
-
Continue to find ways to reduce energy consumption
-
Encourage sustainable practices internally and externally within the networks we work with the creatives, freelancers, actors and management
-
Work towards producing sustainable projects by reusing and recycling materials, switching to low energy equipment and researching alternative materials wherever possible
-
Comply with all environmental legislation and regularly review our policy and actions.
-
Continue to minimise the carbon footprint of business travel by committing to use low emission or no-carbon transport; avoiding domestic flights for travel in England, Scotland and Wales (see travel considerations below)
-
Reduce wastage, preserve resources and recycle
-
Reduce paper printing waste; zero waste to landfill, paperless working
-
Communicate our initiatives and progress to audiences and partners.
-
Ensuring our Board, all staff, funders and donors, and our audiences are engaged with our ethos as well
Travel Considerations
We strongly encourage travelling by bike, whenever possible and we minimise in person meetings which would require travel, by holding meetings online. Although we don’t ban international flights, we strongly encourage compensating for the carbon footprint by paying the additional amount provided by the airlines and choosing greener carriers. We strongly discourage domestic flights and promote the use of trains, public transport and coaches whenever travelling outside of our London headquarters or touring.
This policy has the commitment of the Board of Trustees and after input from all individuals, is then reviewed on a regular basis every 2 years. We will endeavour to capture data from the Action Plan and enforce more specific actions.
